My Fash Avenue

My Fash Avenue

In this fast-paced world of fashion it can be difficult to stay on top of the latest trends and beauty tips. Thankfully there are style gurus like Deanne Castro to help illuminate the path to looking fierce. Born and raised on the chic streets of Toronto, Deanne and her blog My Fash Avenue, aim to provide the ultimate style guide and inspire women to feel good inside and out. Deanne has loved fashion ever since she set eyes on the catwalks and couture of Fashion Television. She isn’t afraid to break rules and believes a girls’ best accessory is confidence. We had a chance to ask Deanne what inspires her, where to shop in Toronto and much more. Let’s meet her!

What inspired you to start your blog My Fash Avenue?

I was first inspired to start my blog by other style bloggers that I discovered on Lauren Conrad’s blog, LaurenConrad.com. I am also an aspiring stylist/merchandiser and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to challenge myself and network within the fashion industry.

How did you become interested in fashion and why is it important?

I became interested in fashion once I first discovered Fashion Television from when I was a kid! I think fashion is very important because it is a form of communication of telling people who are without saying a word.

You have a knack for finding amazing, affordable pieces; what should girls look for to get the most out of their budget?

I think a girl should look for a classic piece that is versatile, like a LBD (little black dress), which can be worn differently to many functions.

What summer trends do you love and which do you hate?

I love floral prints, bright hues and crop top trends for the summer. I am not a fan of big baggy pants, unless they are boyfriend jeans.

What is a fashion rule you never break?

I don’t really have a fashion rule I would never break because rules are always made to be broken. However, the only thing I will never wear are socks with flat sandals.

What do you skimp on and what do you splurge on?

I skimp on most costume jewelry and splurge on designer bags. I find that costume jewellery trends don’t last like an expensive classic bag would.

What would you say to someone seeking fashion advice?

I would tell them not to be afraid to wear a certain style. Anyone can pull off any style with confidence.

Who are your favorite Canadian designers?

My favourite Canadian designers are Sunny Fong, Tanya Taylor, and Ines Di Santo.

Where is your favorite place to shop in Toronto?

I really like to shop at Riant Boutique and Fitzroy Boutique.

Where do you see the future of My Fash Avenue?

I hope My Fash Avenue is still going strong and collaborating with larger name brands.

You can follow Deanne’s fashion adventure on her blog. And, do not forget to shop unique pieces at shopUNIQUES.com!
